Perfect Conditions for Fishing, Crabbing, and Seal Watching with Level 2
It was the perfect day for adventure when Mind Body & Sea welcomed the young people from Level 2 Children’s Charity aboard Neverland. With calm seas, sunshine, and a gentle breeze, the conditions were ideal for a full day on the water.
We began by powering out to a deep-water fishing spot, where the excitement grew with every cast. The Mind Body & Sea team helped the group bait up and taught them how to watch for the telltale signs of a bite. Before long, the first catch was in — a Lesser Spotted Dogfish — quickly followed by another. A sudden strong pull then brought a smooth-hound to the deck, much to the delight of its proud catcher. The action continued, with a good-sized bass joining the tally before the morning was over. By the time the session ended, every young person had experienced the thrill of catching a fish.
After the fishing came a change of pace as we entered the Walton Backwaters for high water. A spirited crabbing competition began between the Port and Starboard teams, with cheers ringing out every time the lines were pulled in. Some hauls brought in as many as five or six crabs at a time, and buckets were soon brimming.
With the competition wrapped up, it was time to visit the resident seal colony. The seals swam playfully in the shallows, offering close-up views for some incredible photographs to take home and share.
As the day drew to a close, music played across the deck while Neverland carried her young guests safely back to Levington. It was a day filled with laughter, wildlife encounters, and shared experiences that will be remembered for years to come.
A huge thank you to the young people from Level 2 and to everyone involved in making this trip possible.
