Veterans on the Water: Fishing, Friendship, and Fresh Air

This week, Mind Body & Sea partnered with Combat2Coffee to deliver the first of three special fishing trips designed exclusively for veterans.

Combat2Coffee is an Ipswich-based social enterprise on a mission to improve the mental health, wellbeing and outcomes for veterans, ex-uniformed personnel, their families and communities. Aboard our accessible boat, Neverland, we welcomed a group of incredible individuals who have served our country, now coming together to reconnect, reflect, and cast a line in good company.

From the outset, the energy on board was filled with warmth and camaraderie. The banter flowed freely, and there was a palpable sense of mutual respect and support. As lines were cast and rods were handed around, stories were shared between bites and the sea breeze. The boat quickly became a safe and joyful space.

A standout moment came when Paul, one of our guests, landed five strong, healthy smooth-hounds, each putting up a determined fight in the tide. The excitement was contagious, and the smiles across the deck told the real story of the day: connection, confidence, and calm.

These monthly trips are about far more than just fishing. They offer a respite from the pressures of daily life, providing time to talk and be heard. For many veterans, being out on the water provides a unique combination of physical activity, mindfulness, and fellowship that helps lift mood and improve wellbeing.

We are proud to be in the same boat as our veteran community. Thank you to Combat2Coffee and every person who made this trip possible. We look forward to welcoming the next group aboard.
